The series Nocturnal Landscape was inspired by the inner world and the secrets that are part of every human’s story. I was recently drawn to the myth of Persephone, the Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld. There is an association of her with The High Priestess, the tarot card, as both represent the mysterious inner world. This inner world carries our undeveloped potentials but also the darker side of our personality. It contains secretive, dreamy fragments that are fleeting and mysterious. The myth of Persephone emphasizes cyclical motion (life, death and rebirth), it’s a constant coming and going, the seed of change and new potential. It has a beautiful mystical rhythm and unveils the knowledge that is available only through intuition, feelings and dreams. I was naturally attracted to work on this series at the night, the time of stillness and solitude. A luminous glow of the moon and a barred owl calling in the darkness were my confidantes. In the darkroom, the negatives were printed as gelatin silver prints, then scanned and digitally turned into negatives again with added layers. The process was playful with a touch of mysticism which is also apparent in the final look of the images.

Why does passion come out mostly at night
Have you seen her dancing with the tress
Why is she so timid and secretive

What makes her feel
